At the Gladney Center for Adoption, we believe that adoption is a lifelong journey—one that requires both understanding and support. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight Caitlyn Ussery, LCSW-S, a highly skilled clinician who now serves in a leadership role guiding therapy team at Gladney Counseling Services.
With a deep background in adoption-informed therapy, trauma recovery, and attachment-based interventions, Caitlyn now uses her experience to support and mentor fellow clinicians, shape programming, and ensure that the services provided by Gladney are compassionate, ethical, and rooted in best practices.
Caitlyn began her career in social work in 2013, working with unaccompanied refugee minors and immigrant children, as well as the foster parents who cared for them. These formative years instilled in her a passion for supporting children and families experiencing significant transitions and trauma.
Her professional path later led her to specialize in foster care and adoption, where she provided therapeutic services to children, parents, and families looking to heal, grow, and connect. In October 2023, Caitlyn transitioned out of direct therapy and into her current role, where she now oversees Gladney’s clinical counseling team.
This new role allows Caitlyn to amplify her impact—supporting Gladney’s therapists, shaping adoption-competent training, and ensuring every client receives the highest standard of care.
Caitlyn is a certified Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) Practitioner through Texas Christian University. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Healing, Attachment, Loving Outreach (HALO), and Making Sense of Your Worth (MSOYW). While she no longer provides individual therapy sessions, she continues to influence therapeutic direction and training for those who do.
Through her clinical oversight and mentorship, Caitlyn ensures that the Gladney Counseling Center is equipped to support the unique needs of adoptees, birth families, and adoptive parents.
Caitlyn’s passion for adoption-informed care hasn’t faded—it’s simply evolved. Today, she supports therapists who walk alongside clients every day. Her insight, supervision, and continued advocacy for ethical adoption practices shape the heart of Gladney’s counseling services.
Whether it’s ensuring that trauma-informed approaches are implemented or mentoring a new therapist in adoption competency, Caitlyn’s leadership plays a key role in the healing journey of every family we serve.
When she’s not leading Gladney’s clinical team, Caitlyn enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and savoring a good cup of coffee. Her approachable, thoughtful nature continues to inspire everyone she works with—from colleagues to clients.
While Caitlyn Ussery, LCSW-S, is no longer seeing clients, her impact continues through her leadership of Gladney’s dedicated counseling team. If you or someone you know is seeking support on the adoption journey, the Gladney Counseling Center is here to help.
