Phoebe

PARENT QUOTE

Phoebe was adopted at the age of 13 months from China in June 2002. We first saw Phoebe through a hotel conference room door as she stood on her nannie's lap, squirming to escape. We felt awe, amazement, joy, and a smidgeon of terror. Our first days together were spent teaching her how to crawl, play, laugh, and begin to trust us to take care of her every need.

FROM THE GRADUATE

Because of my adoption, I am proud to exist out of the ordinary. It has taught me that I never have to be one or the other. My Asian face and American tongue exist in harmony, not conflict. This is how I know that I never have to be just one of anything. I value intellect as well as aesthetic. I am an artist and a scientist and a writer all at once. I am the point at which logic and whimsy intersect. I am everything I choose to be.

ABOUT PHOEBE

Phoebe's great passions in life are reading and art. She loves to write, draw, paint, knit, and has even made her own prom dress. She is graduating from a Houston area high school as an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Finalist, and a 2019 Candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Phoebe will attend a Texas university majoring in pre-med/chemistry.
