PARENT QUOTE

Our initial interview with Gladney was in May 2001. We received a referral in November. Mid-December we were in Russia, to meet our soon-to-be children. Once we confirmed our desire to adopt these girls, we were told it could take three to six months to finalize the Russian end of the adoption. My prayer was that if there were any great obstacles, we would recognize it as a sign that it wasn’t meant to be. One month later, we were back explaining to a judge why these twin girls should become ours. It was a Friday and we were assured the judge would take the weekend to consider our case. That afternoon Sophie and Grace were ours to take home! Nine months after our initial meeting our adoption was finalized in the U.S. No Obstacles.

FROM THE GRADUATE

What I have learned is that though I’m adopted, I am loved unconditionally by my parents and friends. Being adopted isn’t a bad thing at all, which is something I didn’t understand until I was older. I still think about my birth parents and wonder what they are doing. I think it’s important to tell people you were adopted because that is something that makes you unique. It has also helped me to become the person I am today. I know there was a good reason for me being placed for adoption.
