Taiwan Day 3 {Chung Yi}

Written by Superkids Team | 11/1/23 5:27 PM

What a pleasure to walk in to see the people here at Chung Yi that we haven’t seen for 4 years! There were many new faces - time certainly brings changes, but it is good to be back!

Today was unusual in that we saw so many young children and toddlers! It is always fun to see the little ones, but it definitely requires a whole different strategy for screenings. And it requires a lot of energy too.

It no longer surprises me when Nancy slowly works her magic with the shy, quiet child and they end up on her lap pointing out animals in a book. Or with the wild child who wants to do anything but what we are trying to get them to do, and they also end up on her lap, calmly stringing beads, at least for a few minutes.

The child I think I will remember most from this day is little Natalie. She is 4 years old and has cerebral palsy. She is so vivacious and curious. She has figured out a way to get around in spite of not yet being able to walk or crawl property. She is determined to see and touch everything. She must keep her foster mother on her toes! She will go so far in life with that unconquerable spirit!

Our littlest guy of the day is only 20 months old. He can already stack blocks and he was absolutely adorable looking for the little animals Nancy hid under the stacking bowls. He was pretty serious while with us, but we saw a hint of a smile when he found them.

Last night we ate dinner at one of the places you have to visit if you are in Taipei, Din Tai Fung. We ate so many delicious dumplings!

This evening we are talking about having beef noodle soup, another Taiwanese delicacy.
