Where Creativity Meets Clinical Care
At the Gladney Counseling Center, healing happens in connection—and sometimes, that connection begins with a paintbrush, a sculpture, or a storybook. We’re honored to introduce Diana Gibson, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, a trauma-informed therapist and board-certified art therapist who brings more than a decade of experience into the counseling space.
Diana’s approach is rooted in compassion, creative expression, and clinical excellence. Through art therapy and traditional counseling, she helps children, adolescents, and adults process complex emotions and overcome life’s challenges.
A Deep Foundation in Education and the Arts
Diana’s journey combines artistic expertise with educational rigor. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Master’s in Education from Sam Houston State University, later pursuing a Ph.D. in Art Education coursework at the University of North Texas. In 2016, she completed a dual master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from St. Mary of the Woods College.
She now serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate Art Therapy Program at Edgewood College, supporting future therapists through distance learning. Diana also presents regularly at the American Art Therapy Association’s annual conferences, offering research-based workshops and arts-informed supervision techniques.
Clinical Experience That Bridges Systems and Stories
Diana began her clinical career in 2009 at Cook Children’s Medical Center, where she spent eight years as the Resident Artist, supporting patients and families through therapeutic art experiences. She continues her relationship with the hospital today as a contract artist, creating large-scale murals and illustrations for pediatric spaces and children’s books.
In 2017, Diana joined The Art Station in Fort Worth, where she provided trauma-informed therapy to clients in a variety of settings, including:
- Mental health inpatient units
- Youth outpatient behavioral centers
- Veteran services and homeless shelters
- Addiction treatment centers
- Foster care agencies
- Educators in the Fort Worth ISD system
She also supervises interns in both counseling and art therapy fields, guiding the next generation of professionals in ethical, creative, and client-centered care.
Art as a Path to Healing
At the Gladney Counseling Center, Diana offers art therapy as a meaningful tool for expression, regulation, and growth. Through painting, sculpture, and visual storytelling, her clients explore themes of grief, trauma, identity, and transition—often finding strength in the creative process itself.
Her therapy is trauma-informed, deeply respectful, and attuned to the unique needs of each individual. Whether a child is navigating foster care, a teen is exploring identity, or an adult is processing loss, Diana creates a safe, welcoming space to heal.
Meet Sketch: Therapy Dog and Creative Companion
Diana is also a certified animal-assisted counselor, trained through Texas State University’s Animal Assisted Counseling Academy. She works alongside Sketch, her certified Papillon therapy dog, who began training at 12 weeks old. Together, they offer clients comfort, calm, and connection—especially in sessions that involve anxiety, trauma, or emotional overwhelm.
An Artist at Heart
Beyond the counseling room, Diana is a practicing muralist, painter, sculptor, and illustrator. Her creative spirit informs every aspect of her work, reminding clients that healing is both an emotional and imaginative journey.
She’s also a proud wife and mother of three, balancing her professional work with a family-centered life full of art, laughter, and purpose.
