For international adoptees and their families

Applications are now open for Gladney’s Heritage Experience in China, taking place December 27, 2025 – January 3, 2026. This thoughtfully designed journey offers international adoptees and their families an extraordinary opportunity to return to China—not only to see the sights, but to reflect on heritage, identity, and personal story in a supportive environment.

This eight-day cultural experience goes far beyond a traditional tour. Families will travel together to Shanghai, Xi’an, and Chengdu, visiting China’s most historic and vibrant cities. Along the way, participants may also choose to add a Social Welfare Institute or birth city visit where available, creating a deeply personal connection to their child’s roots.

What makes this trip unique is Gladney’s integration of clinical support throughout the journey. Families will be accompanied by Caitlyn Ussery, LCSW-S, Gladney’s counseling leader with more than a decade of experience in trauma-informed adoption care. Caitlyn provides guidance and emotional support as families reflect on identity, culture, and belonging. The trip will also be led by Gongzhan Wu, who directed Gladney’s China adoption programs for more than 30 years. His deep cultural knowledge and longtime connection to the adoption community enrich the experience for every participant.

This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience China not only as a visitor, but as someone returning with purpose, story, and community. Together, adoptees and their families will gain cultural understanding, share meaningful reflections, and create memories that last a lifetime.
